The Federal government's general approach to ground water protection includes programs for prevention, detection, and correction of contamination. The Environmental Protection Agency, United States Geological Survey and United States Department of Agriculture are the three federal agencies most heavily involved in ground water policy and programs. USEPA is involved in all three programs for ground water. USGS limits itself primarily to resource assessment programs that enable detection. USDA focuses on agricultural programs designed to prevent ground water contamination.
