The Groundwater Foundation sponsors an annual Children's Groundwater Festival in Nebraska that utilizes interactive displays, hands-on activities and lively performances to educate student from all across the State about ground water. The Groundwater Festival involved nationally recognized guests from USEPA, the Smithsonian, the National Geographic Society, and U.S. Geological Survey.
The number of participants keeps growing, approximately 3,000 4th - 6th grade students attended the 1997 festival. Parents and
teachers are also very involved in this learning experience. Results from pre and post festival test show that the Groundwater Festival has been successful in educating students on ground water protection.
700 students and their teachers participate in the "Bringing the
Festival Home" program. The students make a commitment to return
to their communities and share the festival messages with others
by conducting various activities.
