State Environmental Agencies:
Administer many progrmas (similar to US EPA's) for protection of water quality in ground and surface waters, including water quality standards regulations, the nonpoint source program, ambient statewide monitoring progrmas, Wellhead Protection, and some public drinking water regulatory programs.

State Department of Agriculture:
Regulate pesticide registration and use and administer markering, ground water monitoring programs for pesticides and rural development programs.

Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service:
Natural resource, water quality, family health and agricultural production education and training programs for citizens.

State Departments of Health:
Administers septic tank, public drinking water regulatory and wellhead protection programs. Monitors water supplies. Provides technical assistance to local governments.

State Soil and Water Conservation Commission:
Administer cooperative programs with the USDA NRCS to conserve soil and water resources on private lands. Provide technical assistance to individuals.

State Water Rights Agency:
Responsible for allocation of water rights (mostly in western states). Regulates consumptive use of water resources.
